Facade Improvement Grant Program Project on Dixwell (Success Stories)

On March 2, 2007, many gathered for the official grand opening of C-Town Supermarket on Dixwell Avenue. C-Town purchased the property from the City of New Haven in 2006 through RFP and has since rehabilitated the site into a neighborhood grocery store featuring ethnic specialties.

The new Dixwell anchor is the 3rd C-Town site in New Haven, after having opened the 1st location in Fair Haven in 1999 and the 2nd location in the Hill in 2005. Currently,

44 jobs have been created at the Dixwell store, 75% of which are employed out of the immediately surrounding neighborhoods, and 35-40 jobs are expected to be maintained. The opening celebrated over $1.3 million in investment dollars being poured into the shopping corridor of Dixwell Plaza, which has not seen significant change in the last several years. Along with C-Town, more development is expected with the City closing of 340 Dixwell Avenue, the former Joe Great’s site, the RFP of 252-256 Dixwell

Avenue, the former Jarman’s site, and the St. Luke’s elderly housing development at 120 Goffe Street.
